Stephen Welch
Chair (UK)

Stephen Welch is our Chair for 2019-20. As Chair, Stephen oversees the activities of the EMENA Board to ensure accomplishment of the region’s mission, goals and objectives. 

Stephen  is a communication, HR, and change professional who has worked across the consulting, leadership development and research functions. Stephen runs his own consultancy practice. He's also the co-founder of Archetypical, the company behind a series of business simulations.

Stephen's previous full-time role was as a global partner of Hay Group, a leading HR consultancy. Stephen worked there from 2002-2013, helping clients improve their human resources function, and ensuring a strong connection between HR and business. Stephen has also served as Chair of IABC UK, and has help a number of roles in IABC globally.

Ana Ximenes
Vice-Chair (MAL-Portugal)

Our Vice-Chair for 19-20 is Ana Margarida Ximenes. Ana's role is to ensure the board's strategy is long-term. She will also oversee the region's Leadership Institute.

Portugal-based Ana co-founded ATREVIA in 1999. Since that time, the agency has become the most awarded in the Iberian Peninsula. With more than 20 years of experience, Ana assists clients in crisis communication, reputation and change management, public affairs, internal communication, community relations, brand and marketing management.

Ana began her career as a journalist. She holds a Degree in Social Communications from the Universidade do Minho with a specialization in journalism, as well as a Business Management Degree (PDE) from AESE Business School. Ana is also a Founding member of the Internal Communications Observatory.

Mike Klein
Past Chair (Netherlands)

As Past Chair, Mike counsels the Chair and the board, to ensure continuity in vision and mission. He will also oversee the election process of the 2019-20 board.

Mike is the Principal of Changing The Terms, a communication practice focused on identifying, connecting and mobilizing informal leaders at all levels of organizations. Based in Delft in the Netherlands, Mike has worked with large global organizations on internal communication issues for nearly 20 years, including VimpelCom, Cargill, Shell, easyJet, Barclays and the United States Department of Transportation, and is a also a former political campaign consultant.

He is a graduate of London Business School and the University of Wisconsin, and is passionate about tribes, travel, Tottenham Hotspur FC and is the author of "From Lincoln to Linked In, the 55 Minute Guide to Social Communication."

Gloria Walker
Treasurer (UK)

Gloria Walker is this year's treasurer. Her remit will be to ensure that the board is operating within budget and spending effectively on member activities.

Gloria has been involved with IABC for many years and has held leadership positions at the chapter, region and international levels. She is a highly-experienced practitioner who combines consulting with academics. As a practitioner, she has international experience in delivering results-based communications and public affairs programmes for a range of organisations in the US, Europe, and Asia. 

She teaches in graduate and undergraduate programmes at the London College of Communication and the Hult International Business School. She is also an active member of several professional associations.  Gloria has degrees in public relations and journalism from West Virginia University (BS) and The University of Texas at Austin (MA).

Emma Hanley
Sponsorship & Marketing Director (Ireland)

For the second year running, Emma Hanley will lead the region's sponsorship and marketing activities. Last year Emma helped strengthen relationships with a number of vendors, ensuring that the region has long term partnerships to rely on.

Emma has been the Customer Success and Communication Specialist at Poppulo for the last five years. She is passionate about the impact good communication has on organizations and works in the Internal Communication and Employee Engagement space, helping, creating and sharing insight and best practice through various channels including webinars, global events and content. Poppulo is the global leader in employee communications software and advisory services, partnering with many of the world's most successful corporations, such as Nestlé, LinkedIn, Rolls-Royce and Experian.

Kosta Petrov
Professional Development (MAL - North Macedonia)

Working with the board, Kosta Petrov will lead efforts to develop professional development plans for our members.

Kosta is internationally renowned entrepreneur, speaker, PR expert on emerging markets and a bestselling business author. He is the founder of P World, the world’s leading events agency with operations in 30 countries across Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, Africa and North America, and a focus on public relations conferences. P World is also the first events agency to organize an international business gathering in the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Kosta is a bestselling author in his native North Macedonia and the editor and creative mind behind The Little Black Book of PR, the first ever book on public relations written by practitioners for practitioners.

Rym Tina Ghazal Bach
Key Programmes and Content Director (Gulf)

An experienced journalist and communicator, Rym Ghazal will look after key programmes and content for members across the EMENA region.

Rym is an award winning European-Canadian-Arab writer, peace ambassador, documentarist, mentor, lecturer, photographer & senior researcher on politics, history, and gender issues. Rym is a storyteller who uses a host of platforms and mediums to engage diverse audiences. Rym's passion includes mentoring and leading workshops for young leaders, writers and media officials across the Gulf.

Rym has a BA Honors in Psychology and Economics from the University of Waterloo, and two Masters degrees, in Psychology and Journalism, from the Universities of Wilfrid Laurier and Carleton respectively.

Sarah Mohamed
Communications Director (Gulf)

Sarah Mohamed will lead all communications for the IABC EMENA region in 19-20, ensuring that members are kept up to date on activities and plans.

With over 9 years' experience in the UAE, Sarah is a communications and business development specialist who has worked with over 100 brands, companies and individuals in the region and abroad. She has a passion for helping companies and individuals grow and is proud to have been recognized as one of the Top 15 Women to Watch in the GCC. Sarah is a resilient entrepreneur and an agile intrapreneur who has learned to use failure as a road to success.

Sarah has a BA in English Literature from the American University of Sharjah. 

Jennifer Andrewes
Membership Director (MAL-France)

A long-timer IABCer who has done remarkable work in APAC, Jennifer Andrewes will lead the membership brief in EMENA, to both strengthen relations with existing members and drive new membership.

Jennifer has twenty years of experience working in communications across local and central government in the UK and New Zealand. She has worked in a range of communications roles to Director Communications level across crown entity and central government agencies encompassing business, economic development, trade and foreign affairs.

Whilst in the UK she studied part-time for a Diploma in Public Relations through Birkbeck College London and Leeds Metropolitan University and was a member of the board of the Wales branch of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations.

Alex Malouf
Director-At-Large (Gulf)

Alex Malouf is a Director-At-Large, and will work with the board on a series of activities and events to support its mission of supporting members and the wider comms industry.

Alex is a marketing communications executive who has spent the last sixteen years in the Middle East. With a cultural mix that is both European and Arabic, Alex’s expertise spans communications for both multinationals in the energy, technology and FMCG space as well as several Gulf-based government institutions.

When he’s not putting pen to paper, Alex can be found advocating for the region’s communications industry through not-for-profit organisations, with other like-minded comms professionals. Alex has a particular interest in change and cultural communications, as well as sustainability. Alex holds the position of corporate communications manager for the Arabian Peninsula at Procter & Gamble.
