Setting up shop as a communicator: view from Zurich

The IABC Switzerland chapter held its first event of the year on March 19 in Zurich, a spirited panel discussion called “How to set up shop as a communicator.” The panel included a mix of newer and established entrepreneurs who took the leap from the corporate world to founding their own communications agencies.

The panelists shared their experiences and inspirations for getting started as well as discussing some of the rewards and realities of running a business – from business plans and client headaches to work life balance. They also shared their insights on what it takes to be a successful entrepreneur.

The event was a collaboration with the University of Zurich’s IPMZ Alumni organization, and attracted a diverse audience of fellow small business owners and corporate communicators.

 

The panelists included:

  • Aileen Zumstein of Zumstein Communication, a communication consultancy that focuses on analysis, strategy development and implementation. Aileen also acts as a host and MC for events, panel discussions and TV shows.
  • Nils Rickert, foundíng partner of the consulting firm Enzaim. Nils launched his career in corporate HR, and specializes in organizational development consultancy with a focus on change management, internal communications and organizational culture.
  • Maude Rivière is the founder of Maude Rivière Communications, a communication consultancy offering services in strategic consulting, corporate communications, crisis communications, media relations and editing.
