EMENA Region 2020 – 21 Board

Chair:  Ana Ximenes

Ana is President, Portugal for Atrevia, Iberia’s largest communication agency. She co-founded Atrevia in 1999, and co-leads Atrevia’s international business development. With more than 20 years of experience, she assists clients in crisis communication, reputation and change management, lobby and public affairs, internal communication, community relations, brand and marketing management working with major category leaders. Ana began her career as a journalist in print, radio and television. She holds a degree in social communication from the Universidade do Minho and a business management degree (PDE) from AESE Business School. In 2009 Ana was elected one of the Most Motivating Persons in Portugal by Business School ISCTE. She speaks Portuguese, English and Spanish. Ana is based in Lisbon, PT.

Past Chair: Stephen Welch

According to my Linkedin profile it says that I’m a communication, HR, and change professional who with strong skills in consulting, leadership development and research. I’ve also got some experience in marketing, mentoring and developing business simulations, such as the Corporate Snakes and Career Ladders project. www.corporatesnakes.org. This project helps people go from technical experts to strategic advisers. (Who writes this stuff?) Previously I was Head of Internal Comms for Dialog Semiconductor, and a partner in a global Management Consulting firm. I’m a Fellow of the RSA and a Full Member of the Market Research Society. UK. I was also IABC UK President from 2012- 2014 and am based just outside London, UK.

Vice Chair: Kendi Guantai

Kendi is a lecturer at Leeds University Business School where she teaches at master’s level in corporate communication strategy, reputation management, public relations, and media planning and strategy as part of various MA programmes. In 2018 she was voted Most Inspiring Tutor, and in 2018/2019 she was a recipient of the Dean’s Award for Teaching Excellence. Before moving to the UK, Kendi was head of customer services for the Kenya Revenue Authority. Kendi is based in Leeds, UK.

Secretary Treasurer: Gloria Walker

Gloria is an associate lecturer at both the London College of Communication and Hult Business School. She is an experienced communication consultant in both internal and external communication. Positions both in-house and in agencies have equipped her with a wide perspective of the role of communications. Experienced in research, planning and implementation, she is interested in project work that uses communications effectively to achieve business goals. She holds an MA in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin. Gloria is based in London, UK.

Membership:  Jennifer Andrewes

Jennifer is a writer, author and senior strategic communications practitioner with more than 20 years of experience working in internal and external communication. Jennifer started her career in tourism in the mid-1990s and has subsequently worked as a freelance writer, and as a trusted communication advisor and communications manager in Parliament and central and local government, both in New Zealand and the UK. She is the past-president of IABC Wellington, chapter development director for IABC’s Asia Pacific Region board, sat on the program advisory committee for the IABC 2019 World Conference, and is a Gold Quill awards evaluator. Jennifer splits her time between New Zealand and France with her husband and three boys, fellow foodies and world travelers. https://myparallellives.com

Key Programs: Wendy L. Snyder

Wendy is a captain in the United States Navy and currently serves as the chief of public affairs for U. S. European Command, the U.S. Department of Defense headquarters for all U.S. military personnel, operations and activities throughout the 51-country area of responsibility.  She has more than 20 years of experience in communication and public affairs leadership with a focus on media relations, public speaking, internal and external communication, crisis communication, and public diplomacy. She participated this year as a panelist at the annual NATO Communication Conference discussing disinformation and partnership building, and engages frequently with NATO and European Ally and partner nations on a wide array of issues concerning both European and U.S. national security matters. She holds a bachelors degree in mathematics, a masters degree in communication and a professional certificate in event management. Wendy is stationed in Stuttgart, DE.

Board Member: Emma Hanley

Emma is a marketing manager at Teamwork, a B2B SaaS company whose products work together to support teams with improved collaboration, seamless communication and faster project delivery. Emma previously worked as the product marketing manager at Poppulo. She has been an active member of the IABC EMENA Board since 2018 and has recently joined the UK & Ireland board. She was also a member of the program advisory committee for the IABC World Conference 2020. Emma is passionate about good communication with a keen interest in marketing, internal communication and employee engagement. Emma has a masters in science from the Cork Institute of Technology. She is based in Cork, IE.

Board Member: Fa Mafi

Fa leads internal communications for the EMEA region at Workday. In this role, her remit includes the creation, development and execution of internal communications strategy, as well as supporting internal-facing leadership communications and, most recently, leading COVID-19 employee communications for the region. Prior to joining Workday, she ran employee communications for Cisco in the UK & Ireland. Based in London, UK, she has over twelve years’ communications experience for top-tier international organisations based both in the UK and the Netherlands, where she lived for three years. She holds a BA degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Oxford and is currently learning Italian.

Board Member: Michael Nord

Michael is the Client Services Director at Fifth Business, an ERM Company, a global role to strengthen and develop relations with existing and future clients, thus broadening The Fifth Business’ footprint across all locations. Michael is a GCC Certified Communications professional with 25+ years in international experience in marketing, PR, corporate communications and consulting. His focus is on brand alignment, breaking down silos, creating innovative ways for employees to deliver their purpose, identifying influencers, enabling bottom-up and sideways communication in organizations. Michael was recently the secretary-treasurer at IABC Global.  Michael is based in Amsterdam, NL.

Board Member: Monique Zytnik

Monique is a senior communications and marketing professional experiences in internal and external relations, including global media relations, brand management and digital communications. Her focus areas include health, medical, investment and banking, broadcasting and technologies, such as mobile marketing and renewables. She has worked nationally and internationally in government, corporate, not-for-profit, member-based and start-up sectors. She recently spoke at the Quadriga Global Communications Summit on theme and humour in work communications. Monique holds a masters in communication (PR) from Melbourne’s RMIT University. Monique is based in Berlin, DE.
