About the EMENA Region

IABC EMENA is a region of the International Association of Business Communicators. IABC global headquarters is located at 155 Montgomery Street, Suite 1210, San Francisco, CA 94104, USA. For more information visit iabc.com.

The EMENA Region board supports IABC primarily by providing various governance, administrative, support and development functions to chapters, chapter leaders and members-at-large in the region.

The board also hosts a variety of events throughout the year, including professional development seminars, speaker programmes, networking events, and conferences such as EuroComm and the regional Leadership Institute.

History

The IABC has had members in Europe since the 1970s. The first chapter in Europe (IABC UK) was founded in 1979 by a small group of communicators, including Tony Buckley, Ian Hawkins, and Peter Jackson. It remained the only chapter outside of North America until the 1990s.

In 1984, as part of a strategic effort to focus attention on international development, the Europe Middle East (EME) Region was formed when Tony Buckley became the first regional director, followed by John Ford.

By 2004, as one of three geographical regions outside North America, the regional body served over 300 IABC members in 35 countries – in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Kuwait, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, UAE and the UK.

In 2013, we added North Africa.

Today the IABC EMENA (Europe, Middle East and North Africa) Region is well-established, with chapters in the UK, France, Belgium, Russia, Slovenia, Switzerland and the Netherlands plus a group of collaborative and enthusiastic members-at-large in more than 20 countries. We also have two development chapters: Ireland and the Gulf (formed in 2016).
