2015-2016 IABC EMENA Region Board
As 2015-16 Chair, Klavs oversees the activities of the EMENA Board to ensure accomplishment of the region’s mission, goals and objectives. He is also liaison for development chapters, and is the region’s representative at the international levels of the association including a seat on the IABC Council of Regions. Klavs Valskov (40) became Global Director of Communications at age 33 for the world’s largest shipping company, Maersk Line, with 32,000 employees and a USD27bn revenue. Here he managed a global team of 70 and a budget of $10m. He held this position from 2008-2013 before he decided to move from Copenhagen to London to become Managing Director of Agenda Strategies. General Electric quickly became his largest client and in April 2015 he was offered to move in-house as Head of Brand for GE Oil & Gas – his current role. Klavs is a senior communications leader with proven and internationally recognized capabilities within Corporate Affairs, Brand Building, Analytics & Insights, Market Positioning Strategy, Digital Media, C-level counsel and Team Design & Operating Rhythms. His won several awards and in 2014 he published “Internal Communication – A Manual for Practitioners” which is now a text book at universities in UK, Denmark and Netherlands. He serves as chairman for the International Associations of Business Communicators EMENA region and is a popular guest lecturer at universities and speaker at conferences.
Nada is responsible for Middle East North Africa strategy. A specialist in corporate communications, public relations and strategic communications, Nada previously worked as United Nations’ communications officer, and built as well as developing the regional communications function for Deloitte and Touche in the Middle East. Today, she is an independent consultant in brand and communication in the aviation, luxury retail, IT and development sectors.
Starting in a multimedia communications agency just before the heady days of the Internet boom, Ilze saw her career moving into corporate communications, journalism, publishing (online, magazines, newspaper, corporate), and training over the next 20 years. She was the editor of e-Hospital and International Health & Equipment magazines. She is currently involved in cross-cultural training and research, working with the ITIM/Hofstede Institute and teaching at Fontys Business School in the Netherlands.
Nikki is the 2015-16 Vice Chair, and provides counsel to the Chair on direction and progress of the region, such as the strategic plan, and managing the EMENA Leadership Institute in 2015. Nikki will automatically succeed Klavs as Chair. With more than 20 years of experience in employee communication and engagement, in both agency and global corporate environments on four continents, Nikki has worked with leading brands such as Visa, Bupa, Barclaycard, Rolls-Royce and more. She is an independent consultant currently working for, among others, London-based multinational financial organisations, on a range of strategy and communication projects. Nikki is also a managing partner at a boutique agency (hotchillibox.com) which provides end-to-end content, web development services and e-commerce solutions. Most recently, she founded a Provence-based business that offers bespoke executive event management services to corporate clients (gofigure.fr).
Jasna is owner at communications agency Virtua PR and an experienced digital communications professional. She works with Slovenian and international clients and provides consulting, training and speaking. She is a specialist in digital PR, social media, internal communications, corporate communications, content marketing, and more. Jasna is also an author of the book New opportunities in e-communication (in Slovenian) and a frequent speaker at conferences.
Jennifer has worked in communications in a wide variety of companies such as Staples, Shell, the Royal Bank of Scotland and General Electric. She likes problem-solving and is passionate about improving the reputation of the communications profession. She earned a green belt in Lean Six Sigma in technology and is adept in areas of information and data management. Jennifer was also an actor for 20 years and uses her experience to coach, guide and mentor people to become better presenters and storytellers. She has served on the IABC Netherlands Board since 2014. She also has a passion for 16th Century European history and gives history tours in the Netherlands.
As Past Chair, Michael counsels the Chair and the board ensuring smooth transition and capturing gained knowledge and experience for posterity. Michael will oversee the election process of the 2016/17 board. As Principal consultant at Fifth Business – an international integrated communications, leading and digital media design consultancy – Michael is a specialist in change management, corporate communications, social media, strategic conference and event management, PR, marketing and more.
Alex is a marketing communications executive who has spent the last ten years in the Middle East. With a cultural mix that is both European and Arabic, Alex’s expertise spans communications for both multinationals in the energy, technology and FMCG space as well as several Gulf-based government institutions. When he’s not putting pen to paper, Alex can be found advocating for the region’s communications industry through not-for-profit organisations, with other like-minded comms professionals. Alex has a particular interest in change and cultural communications, as well as sustainability. Alex holds the position of corporate communications manager for the Arabian Peninsula at Procter & Gamble.
Jane co-ordinates regional alignment and feedback with the IABC global strategy. Jane runs her own company, JL&M Ltd, guiding global clients around the intricacies of rolling out ethics programmes; from the embedding of appropriate values and behaviours through leadership programmes to developing effective rollouts of Codes of Conduct, and joining the dots in between! Jane is also a non-executive director of UK-based communications agency Karian & Box, specialising in employee engagement measurement and strategies. Her clients include Rolls-Royce, BP, Schlumberger, BAE Systems, BP, Serco, PwC and more. Jane is a former UK Chapter President, Chair of the IABC Global Research Committee, and has just stepped down from the IABC International Executive Board.
