Laura Desert | President

Following an educational background in Linguistics, Business and Communications, Laura is building a career in Internal Communications with a particular focus on Corporate Sustainability, Diversity & Inclusion and Employee Engagement.

Laura leads the Internal Communications function at CityFibre, the UK’s largest alternative provider of wholesale fibre network infrastructure, and has been an IABC member for four years and on the Board for two years. She enjoys communicating with audiences in the technology space, and in her spare time advocates for women in STEM.

Simon Monger, SCMP | President Elect

Simon Monger is an internal communications, change and engagement consultant who, since 2007, has worked with large global and multinational organisations in the public, private, legal and professional services sectors. Simon’s broad range of experience working with organisations including E.ON UK, Transport for London, Deloitte and IKEA has seen him provide strategic communications support for multiple office moves, diversity and inclusion strategies, regulatory changes, business transformations, and even managing the transport challenge of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Simon has made a great impact on the IABC UK & Ireland Board in his first year being involved, helping us shape and refine our offering and ensure we continue to stand out in the market.

Sarah Harrison | Past President

Sarah Harrison has spent more than 20 years working communications and employee engagement consultancies. She is now an executive coach and director at Futurum Group.

She believes corporate communications can make or break audience engagement and that an organisation’s success relies on the effectivenes of its communications.

The UK and Ireland Chapter aims to support the IABC’s global pillars of: Advancing the profession, creating strategic communicators and creating connection; by continuing to produce excellent events, collaborating on research and exploring and connecting with the IABC’s global network of experts.

Georgia Eather | Treasurer

With a background in Journalism, Georgia is a Marketing and PR professional, specialising in digital and social media. Previously working in agencies, she has experience across multiple industries such as sport, lifestyle, property, pharmaceutical and consumer, and is now in an in-house B2B role. Holding a Master’s of Business, Georgia is passionate about reputation management and community management. Since joining the IABC Board she has reinvigorated and brilliantly managed our social media channels.

Rachel Tolhurst

Rachel Tolhurst is Head of Internal Communications at Amey Plc, a B2B infrastructure services company. Rachel is responsible for internal communications, brand, creative, digital and social media; including Amey’s employee engagement survey. She has over 20 years’ communications experience and is passionate about the value of data to drive insight and action.

Victoria Silverman

Victoria Silverman is a highly-experienced and multi award-winning senior communications professional with a background in complex global organisations.

A former journalist, her career in communications started at ITV from where she went on to create an internal news service, which led to marcomms and business

strategy roles at Deloitte and Thomson Reuters. Victoria straddles both internal and external social media, thought leadership and communication, providing CEO, business and leadership support at Refinitiv.  (A $6bn fintech, Refinitiv span out of Thomson Reuters in October 2019 and is now under acquisition by the London Stock Exchange Group.)

As director of innovation enablement at Thomson Reuters Victoria explored emerging tech and what it takes to build a company culture capable of attracting diverse talent. In her spare time she runs an online community for the parents of teenagers; and in non-lock down mode is a willing cab driver to her sons Max and Jack.

Rachael Pearson

Rachael is an experienced communicator and copywriter who’s worked both agency and client-side to help brands share their stories. Working with big names including Morrisons, Lloyds Banking Group, Primark and Hermes, she’s supported them to develop strategies to reach and engage diverse audiences.

As a trained journalist, Rachael loves getting to the heart of a story and thinking of interesting ways to share it. She recently set up her own copywriting and consulting business, with a mission to harness the power of words and solve communication challenges, delivering real results for her clients.

Emma Hanley

Emma is Marketing Manager at Teamwork having previously been the Product Marketing Manager at Poppulo. She has recently joined the UK & Ireland Board, having previously been an active member of the IABC EMENA Board.

Emma is passionate about good communication and works in the Internal Communication and Employee Engagement space, helping, creating and sharing insight and best practice through various channels including webinars, global events and content.

Annette O’Herlihy

Annette O’Herlihy is Communications Program Manager for the Customer Solution Centers at Dell Technologies, an international team spread across 19 global locations. Core to this role is developing innovative ways to articulate the story of the expertise and value-add of the team, and enabling team members to tell their stories.

During her 20-year career in the technology industry, Annette has worked in technical communications, project and program management, as well as internal communications.

Annette holds a BA in English and Applied Psychology, an MA in Early Medieval Monastic Culture, a Graduate Diploma in Software Localisation, and recently completed an MA in Work and Organisational Behaviour.

Annette lives in Cork, Ireland with her husband and two young sons. During rare spells of spare time, she loves to dive into the world of a good sci fi novel.

Pooja Kamat

Pooja Kamat is a Masters graduate from Leeds University Business School. She has completed a course in Corporate Communication, Marketing and Public Relations (CCMPR) and has previously worked at GOLIN as a PR Intern with a keen interest in Digital PR, Influencer and Media Relations.

She is dynamic, motivated and well-grounded change agent with a passion for learning and growth through analysis and collaboration. She has consistently demonstrated a can-do attitude as part of her role as Student Member of the Board this past year, and will continue to embrace tough challenges with energy and enthusiasm in her Board member role this year.

Jessica Farrow

Jessica Farrow is the Senior PR & Content Manager at Halston Marketing. Jessica heads up the content division and primarily works on large-scale research projects such as whitepapers, persona documentation and competitor analysis.

Halston Marketing are situated in Leeds and work with a wide range of clients in the B2B sector, predominately those in technology or heavy industries. For example, the agency works with clients that deliver IoT energy solutions and edge-based machine vision to the retail sector or international pharmaceutical logistics providers.

Mark Bunker MCIPR

Mark is a senior communications professional with a strong track record of success. He trained as a History teacher, taking a career change into the world of corporate communications over 23 years ago. He has worked for a number of large, international organisations including Rexam, Lloyds Banking Group, Burger King and Home Retail Group. He is currently Communications Director for Capco, a global technology and management consultancy that specialises in driving digital transformation across the financial services industry, where he leads the global communications strategy and plan.

Eduvie Martin

Eduvie Martin is a comms professional with over 13 years’ experience in effective communications and reputation management for global brands and start-ups in Africa and Europe.

She is the Head of Marketing and Communications & Executive Director of Africa’s largest publisher of independent comic books- Comic Republic – a start-up known globally for their diverse universe of authentic stories, graphic novels, comic books, animations, and illustrations of African superheroes inspired by mythology, folktales, and culture.

She is also the Global Internal Communications Manager at British American Tobacco (BAT) based in London.

After starting her career at FirstBank of Nigeria and working across seven countries, Eduvie went on to study broadcast journalism at the New York Film Academy before embarking on her masters in marketing and communications at IE Business School, Madrid and quite recently, studying Digital Marketing at the London Business School.

Colleagues call her super keen for her upbeat and enthusiastic approach to problems, others call her Agent E for her ability to see beyond the news and uncover the details of key issues while her family calls her ‘catering practical’ for her weird attempt to mix African and western cuisines into dishes which actually end up okay.

She is passionate about measuring the impact of effective internal and external communications, delivering work that adds value and shaping the African narrative through story-telling and experiences.
